One women-focused nonprofit has launched a new way to help them get faster answers to their queries through the use of an online AI chatbot. The organization, Savvy Ladies, was founded more than 20 years ago by Stacy Francis, a certified financial planner and president and CEO of Francis Financial in New York City. After seeing her grandmother stay in an abusive situation because she lacked financial resources, Francis created the nonprofit with the goal of helping other women avoid similar situations. watch nowThe new chatbot — provided through Microsoft Copilot — allows visitors to the Savvy Ladies website to type in their financial questions and receive immediate answers curated from the website's content written by CFPs and other financial professionals. Investors are more likely to trust advice from generative AI tools than from social media, according to a survey released last year from the CFP Board, a professional organization representing professional financial planners.

Before Helen Leddy moved to Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers, Fla., last year, she got the lowdown on the place from her best friend, Judy Burget. Ms. Leddy, 86, wasn’t interested in leaving her condo if it meant adopting one part of the culture Shell Point emphasized on its website: “If you go online, you see they’re built around religion,” she said. As a Unitarian Universalist who grew up Jewish, Ms. Leddy was concerned that the denomination that founded Shell Point, the evangelical Christian and Missionary Alliance, might promote values that did not match hers, and that her new neighbors might proselytize. Ms. Burget, who has lived at Shell Point for six years, told her that wasn’t going to happen. Faith-based communities like Shell Point, which was established in 1968, generally don’t insist that residents subscribe to the religion that shaped the communities, according to Katie Smith Sloan, the president and chief executive of LeadingAge, an association of nonprofit providers of aging services.

Read previewThe Biden administration this week pushed out a slate of rules it says are meant to boost competitiveness and put more money into workers' pockets. There are already challenges to at least one of the rules — but together they could land overtime pay for millions more workers, ban noncompetes that prevent workers from moving into jobs in similar industries, and help people get automatic refunds for delayed or canceled flights. More workers eligible for overtime payUnder the Department of Labor's new rule, many workers who make under $43,888 will be eligible for overtime pay effective July 1. A ban on noncompetes that keep workers from taking new jobsPerhaps the most sweeping action for workers came from the Federal Trade Commission, which finalized a rule to ban noncompetes in most cases. "People who are mentally tough stay mentally tough because they don't slip easily into shame or self-criticism or self-loathing." Instead of rushing to recover from a tough situation, give yourself time to feel your emotions, psychologist Cortney Warren wrote for CNBC Make It last year. "A key component of resilience is emotional flexibility, or the ability to regulate your feelings and reduce their intensity in a given situation," wrote Warren. I like to call them "Connected Explorers." I've found in my research and professional experience that "Connected Explorers" tend to embody four phrases. They regularly tell themselves:'I believe in and like myself'The securely attached tend to have a strong sense of self, and higher self-esteem, than those who are insecurely attached. They're more likely to have consistently positive feelings about themselves, their abilities, and their perception of acceptance by others. Connected Explorers understand where they end and others begin, and in the case of more intimate or romantic relationships, where the "we" begins, without becoming subsumed.

"There's a lot going on in the space," said Judy Kimball, a senior director of investor marketing at Yipit. Initial Data Offering launched last December, and its user base has grown rapidly, according to Ober. The site is simple — it's a place where data vendors can share new products, and data buyers can get in touch with sellers on items that interest them. Now, his side hustle is growing faster than he could have imagined, and he hopes to expand beyond the typical hedge fund crowd. Because this isn't Ober's day job, the build-out can be less about revenue and more about growing the community.

It had been more than a year since the Covid pandemic had forced Disney's domestic parks to shutter, but D'Amaro, chair of Disney's experiences division, was confident guests would flood back in when the gates reopened. Revenues fell 35% in 2020, a nearly $10 billion decrease from the $26.2 billion the experiences division had tallied in the year before the pandemic. The experiences division posted record revenue of $32.5 billion in fiscal 2023, a 16% increase from the prior year. CNN —The Office of Management and Budget on Thursday announced changes to how the federal government asks about people’s race and ethnicity, including in the US census. Under the previous standards, Hispanic or Latino ethnicity was measured in a question separate from the one on racial identity. “Thanks to the hard work of staff across dozens of federal agencies and input from thousands of members of the public, these updated standards will help create more useful, accurate, and up to date federal data on race and ethnicity. “The U.S. Census Bureau commends the scientific integrity and collaboration with our fellow federal statistical agencies and departments throughout this process. These efforts aim to improve federal race and ethnicity statistics and ensure data more accurately reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the U.S. population,” the agency said.

10'000 Hours | Digitalvision | Getty ImagesThere's still time to lower your 2023 tax bill or boost your refund with a lesser-known retirement savings strategy for married couples. One requirement for individual retirement account contributions is "earned income," such as wages or salary from a job or self-employment earnings. But there's an exception for single-income households: the spousal IRA. With income phaseouts for IRA deductibility and Roth IRA contributions, many wait until March or April for the previous year's IRA deposits. Even a $500 or $1,000 spousal IRA contribution could provide tax savings.

The celebrity TV justice Judith Sheindlin, better known as Judge Judy, married Jerry Sheindlin in 1977. They divorced in 1990 and then remarried in 1991. The singer and actress Marie Osmond and the motivational speaker Steve Craig were first married in 1982 and divorced in 1985. Thank you, Mr. Kristof, for digging into this crisis and for reporting on this program in Tulsa that has had so much success for women in recovery. My niece was certainly someone who may have survived if she had found a program like this. Instead, she was incarcerated for crimes associated with her drug use, and she found little if any help there. I can’t help wondering what if instead of locking her up, she had been compelled to enter a program like Women in Recovery. The writer is the author of “White Flag,” about her attempt to help her niece.
